Finding humane menstrual necessities such as organic tampons and other feminine care products should not be an additional stress. Your time of the month can be uncomfortable enough as it is.
Whether you’re a cup girl or prefer tampons and pads, there’s a cruelty-free option!
And I’m also going to tell you about some places where you can find humane tampons and pads made from organic materials.
So you can be toxin-free too!

Are tampons cruelty-free and Vegan?
I’m afraid the answer is NO. It’s a sad truth that tampons and sanitary napkins are tested on animals.
From the Federal Drug Administration (FDA):
“Following the least burdensome provisions of the Act, FDA will rely upon a well-designed bench and animal testing rather than requiring clinical studies for new devices unless there is a specific justification for asking for clinical information to support a substantial equivalence determination. While, in general, clinical studies will not be needed for most menstrual tampons and pads, FDA may recommend that you collect clinical data for menstrual tampons (including applicators, if present) or pads with:
- designs or material formulations dissimilar from designs or material formulations used in legally marketed devices of the same type
- new technology, i.e., technology different from that used in legally marketed devices of the same type
- indications for use dissimilar from legally marketed devices of the same type.”
Unfortunately, our feminine care is another thing we must consider when it comes to animal cruelty. But fortunately for us, we have many options to choose from.
I have put together some of the best options below. Or you can go directly to the list of cruelty-free female care.
Best Vegan Pads and tampons
Blume
Blume offers humane and organic tampons and humane self-care items such as cramp oil, blemish cream, soaps, skincare, and deodorant.
It has been called the best organic subscription box of the period.
You can order the items individually or build a monthly subscription box of the items you want. They will even include a chocolate bar!
Cora
Cora manufactures organic and vegan tampons. The coolest part is that they started as a subscription service! Talk about a monthly box that’s useful. Now you can also buy them online at Target.
What I like best about Cora is that you get a box delivered every month and provide one month of tampons to girls in need.
L. Organic Cotton
L. Organic offers tampons, pads, and sanitary napkins.
I’m not exaggerating when I say these are the best sanitary pads. They are comfortable with a feeling of barely a little water and are absorbent. Plus, look at the packaging!
They look good and feel good, but they’re hard to cook for more reasons. They were created when the founder, Talia Frenkel, saw a real problem with access to reproductive rights worldwide.
L. works with thousands of Lady Bosses in developing countries and provides them with a product every time you purchase.
Reusable pads and underwear
GladRags
Leaping Bunny’s certified company is focused on what is good. Good for you, good for the planet, and good for your wallet. GladRags offers so many options!
If you’ve been toying with the idea of going the reuse route, check out their selection. They also have their menstrual cup (more on that later!).
Thinx
I have never been as intrigued by a vintage product as I am with Thinx. Thinx offers period panties in different styles, all created for different flows.
Yes, this is the panty you menstruate in. No need for a tampon or sanitary napkin. How is this possible?
You can get Thinx that contains tampons worth (you know, for those days when you thought you were done, but your body has different plans) up to those that contain two tampons worth.
Ruby’s Love
Ruby Love may be known for her period underwear and sportswear, but have you seen their early period kits?
You will find Ruby’s First Period Kit inside :
- Vintage underwear for teens
- Pads
- Ruby Love discreet clutch bag
- Make a wish: an adult bracelet
- Ruby Love Relaxing Sleep Mask
- Refreshing gel eye mask
- Warm and cozy socks
- Ruby Love Lip Ball Warming Gel Pad for Cramps
- Ruby Love Stress Ball
- Compact heart-shaped mirror
- Beauty Mask Face Essence
- Exfoliating bath sponge
- Elastics for hair
- Inspirational notebook
- Keepsake Satin Hygiene Pouch Filled with Essential Hygiene Products
- Hand sanitizer
- Hygienic wipes
It may be for teenage girls having their first period, but it’s probably what you’ll want, even if you’re having your 200th period.
Lunapads
Lunapads are a kind of combination between Gladrags and Thinx. You can stock up on reusable pads, vintage briefs, and DivaCup in one place.
But what’s excellent about Lunapads is their philanthropic efforts. For every towel, pantiliner, kit, and DivaCup sold, one reusable towel is provided to a Ugandan student in need. Do good for yourself. Do good for yourself.

Menstrual Cups
Lunette
If you like colors, Lunette is the cup for you. If you also want to feel good about the company you support, Lunette is the brand for you.
They do so much good, whether providing products to those who need them or working to eliminate the embarrassment of menstruation.
XO Flo
This cup is from GladRags. The XO Flo is designed to hold more, feel better, and be easier to use.
The creators of this cup spent a lot of time designing it.
The rounded bottom makes it easy to collect, and the long adjustable stem makes it easy to remove.
The only drawback is that they only offer one size of XO Flo.
DivaCup
The DivaCup is probably the best-known menstrual cup.
Its mission is to provide women with sustainable and environmentally friendly feminine care products.
The DivaCup and Diva Wash are herbal and chemical-free!
