How to have a simple and cruelty-free skincare routine
The basics of any skincare routine are simple: a good cleanser, a good moisturizer, and an SPF.
If you feel like adding an exfoliator and serums, but for a super-simple skincare routine, you only need three products.
A basic morning and evening skincare routine can look like this:
Cleaners
People tend to skimp on their cleaners, mainly if they use other treatments or serums, but a good cleanser is essential to your routine.
You want to find a gentle cleanser that works with your skin type. Aggressive cleaners can deprive your skin of its natural oils and leave your face feeling tight and irritated.
Derma E Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser
This is my current anti-wrinkle cleanser and is the best cleaner I’ve ever used on my skin. It’s a light gel cleanser that foams to cleanse the skin without stripping it.
I have dry combination skin with occasional breakouts (yes! even at my age!), and the glycolic acid in this cleanser has helped lighten spots and smooth my skin.
Andalou Naturals Kombucha and Citrus Cleansing Gel
It is an excellent choice for those with oily or acne-prone skin. Citrus Kombucha Cleanser contains willow bark to fight breakouts and aloe vera to soothe irritated skin.
It also has a scent perfect for picking me up in the morning.
Pacifica Sea Cleansing Foam
Pacifica is a cruelty-free drugstore brand, and one of its favorite products is its skincare line.
Sea Foam Cleanser is a great all-in-one cleanser that removes makeup, fights age, and gives your skin antioxidants to fight daily pollution.

Exfoliators
Generally, when we think of exfoliants, we think of traditional scrubs. These can be a little too harsh for specific skin types and do not always offer the kind of exfoliation we are looking
ng for.
Pixi Glow Tonic
Pixi’s Glow Tonic is a very popular exfoliating tonic, and with good reason. It uses glycolic acid to gently exfoliate, which helps lighten and smooth the skin’s surface.
Target usually has sample sizes that you can try before investing in a large bottle.
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
The Microfoliant is instead a traditional exfoliant. It is composed of a rice-based powder that removes dead skin cells but is filled with ingredients that soothe and calm the skin.
I like this exfoliator, but the price of the full version is very high at $57. I suggest you take the travel version because you don’t use tons of products every time.
Paula’s choice for perfecting her BHA skin
Paula’s Choice BHA is a fan favorite among fans of liquid exfoliators. BHA is the perfect choice for those who want to fight breakouts while exfoliating because it can penetrate pores and clean them.
BHA Skin Perfecting also smoothes skin and helps even out skin tone.
SPF
Wearing an SPF during the day (especially if you choose to add exfoliation or other treatments) is an important step that you should not skip during your skincare routine.
Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen
The invisible sunscreen is colorless, so you don’t have to worry about the white color that an SPF can give.
Its consistency is similar to that of a silicone-based primer (like Smashbox Photo Finish), so it’s a great choice if you plan to apply makeup right after your skincare.
First Aid Beauty Weightlessness Liquid Mineral SPF 30
The sunscreen of First Aid Beauty is the perfect mesh between the sun and skincare. It moisturizes and brightens while protecting from the sun with SPF 30. This sunscreen is light and works well under makeup.
simple skincare routine humane sun protection SPF
It is a non-whitening mineral SPF that protects the skin against UVA/UVB rays and is quickly absorbed with a light, invisible, non-greasy finish.
Available at Sephora.
Mario Badescu Oil-Free Moisturizer SPF 30
Mario Badescu’s moisturizer with SPF is perfect if you want something super light.
You get the benefits of sunscreen while moisturizing and evening out your skin tone.
Makeup Removers
If you wear makeup daily as I do, I suggest you use a makeup remover before your cleanser.
Some cleansers are very effective at removing makeup and cleansing the skin, but I like to remove makeup before I wash.
Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Remover and Cleanser Balm
This product’s name explains exactly what it does. This melt-in-the-mouth cleanser removes makeup for days without over-drying.
You don’t need to use a lot to reap the benefits. A pea-sized drop is all you need to meet all your makeup in seconds.
Yes, to Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Face Wipes
These are my favorite wipes and the only ones that don’t burn the skin around my eyes.
Yes, to Cucumbers, Facial Wipes are easy to use on the go or when you want to finish your routine quickly. They work just as well on eye makeup!
Cleaning with oil
It is not a product but a cleaning recommendation. Oil cleansing is a great way to cut out daytime makeup while giving your skin more moisture.
You can use your favorite oil: jojoba (my favorite), almond, coconut, or whatever your heart desires. Rub a small palm full of oil on your face, then wipe with a warm washcloth.
Check out the Jojoba oil.
Moisturizers
Moisturizers are a must, even for oily skin! They help balance your skin and lock in moisture. Some people use different moisturizers for their morning and night routines, but the following can be used anytime.
Josie Maran Argan Oil
Face oils are fantastic solutions, and Josie Maran’s argan oil is one of the best you can get. It is light and deeply nourishing, perfect for dry or sensitive skin.
This face oil contains anti-aging and smoothing ingredients and leaves the skin supple and radiant. A little bit of this oil does a lot of good! Save a little money and mini size, especially if you want to try it.
Moisturizing night cream Derma E
Don’t be fooled by the name. Derma E Moisturizing Night Cream is an excellent choice for any time of the day. It’s a lifesaver when my face is dry and tense.
Hyaluronic acid attracts and retains moisture in the skin, helping to fill in fine lines. I like to use a little extra in the evening as a night mask for even more moisture.
